Experiment

Today on Good Morning America, there was a story about how drinking 3 liters of water a day can totally transform a person. I know most of you probably drink quite a bit of water. Unfortunately for me, I drink a lot less because I am frequently in places where it is not permitted (hospital patient floor).

Regardless I think it's time to experiment. Today I took my before photo which won't be posted until the 4 week period is over and I snap the after photo. With the looks of the before photo, I hope to see a gigantic transformation. We shall see! Bottoms up!

By the way, here is the article.

UPDATE: Drinking 3L of water is damn near impossible. Most I have consumed is 2L and it took a whole lot of attention and time to maki that happen. I am still working on it though!

Because it DOES matter!

Grammar geeks UNITE! I'm sorry but in my head full of marbles rolling around, there is one surefire way to send your credibility with me, out the window:

Butcher a sentence, misspell a word or use a word inappropriately.

God help me if I jack up a sentence in this post, because I KNOW who my audience is!

I am so cognizant about my writing (unless autocorrect helps me jack it up), that if I am unsure of how a word is spelled, I will look it up! Which reminds me of something...

Squirrel! (because we are getting sidetracked and who knows if we will get back to where my thoughts originally were)

My niece is also a huge grammar geek. We take great pride in pointing out horrendous mistakes on Facebook posts. Imagine if you will my pure enjoyment when she meant to say the word spelled, but said "spelt" instead! Of course I could not let that one go for the longest time until one day this arrived on my Facebook wall;

spelt

2 [spelt] Show IPA
noun
a wheat, Triticum aestivum spelta,  native to southern Europe and western Asia, used for livestock feed and as a grain for human consumption

True! She did not use the word in the right context however it was still a word and I learned something from it.

Now back to what I was saying (I think the Ginko Biloba is working) -

I am working on nursing homework and had this awful teaching assignment I had to complete. In writing the assignment, I wanted to use the word "Cognizant" but really wasn't sure if it was spelled with a Z or S.  I looked it up and SQUIRREL! I found this! Have you ever heard of a gossamer? I haven't and I am so excited to learn what that really is! I just saw one the other day and it turned into a lengthy conversation with a classmate on how strong they are.

Looking through the slideshow I have linked for you (up where it says I found this), I learned a new word and am "cognizant" of what it actually is!

Another thing I have come to realize this week - Being a nursing student must be the same as how someone with ADHD must feel. Everything is done at Mach 1 and you never have time to finish one thing before you are onto another and you aren't really sure you comprehended the first thing in the first place!

Happy Friday!

Tried and True

This evening as my hubby and I were folding clothes from the dryer, we were talking about how old some of our sweatshirts are. This one from Hard Rock Café is older than my marriage of 16+ years! In fact dear hubby bought this on a trip to Orlando when he went with his cousin in.... 1993 I think. Lol!! Yep. That makes it a solid 20 years old and it is still holding its own. Not like we wear it for a night on the town, but when you are snuggled up with pandora on your earbuds, it makes for super comfy gear.

What garment do you have to top that?

Sunflowers

I'm so glad I threw these seeds in the bed behind the grill. I'm going to plant them the whole way down the fence, next year.

Nothing Can Happen

I LOVE Sentsy candleless warmers. I recently picked up the Hatteras warmer for my kitchen. Which makes three that I now own.
It sits beautifully on my kitchen counter and casts a spell over all that enter my house. My #1 favorite scent is Coconut LemonGrass.
I love leaving it on all the time. We also have another in our bedroom that refreshes the senses with a spa scent. It's appropriately named Just Breathe.

It is incredibly relaxing and melts stress away.

Now I can get to the meat of this post. Yesterday we were about to leave the house and Dennis (my dear hubby) turns off my kitchen warmer.

Me: "What are you doing?"
D: "Turning it off. We are leaving."
Me: "Leave it on. It's fine. It's a light bulb. Nothing can happen."
D: "I respond to 'Nothing can happen' all the time!"

These are the days of my life, as a Fireman's wife.

FYI, if you have the opportunity to attend a Sentsy home demonstration, I highly recommend it and NO, I'm not a consultant. I'm just a groupie. 😘

The Slippery Slope

They say it's a slippery slope when it comes to breaking bad habits. My friends, I'm at the bottom of it. I have been eating like crap, feeling like crap (because that's what I'm eating) and the weight is coming  back on. :(

Its so hard to "restart" what was a really great thing. I need to look up clean eating again because that is clearly not what I've been doing. The first week back to school, I craved salt so much, I gave myself sinus headaches. My eating was off the hook and when I checked around with other students, I was not in the boat by myself.

Time to get my act together. I figure if I start working out slowly again, hopefully the endorphins will kick in and it will assist me in getting my act together again.

With that, I'm hitting the gym with Emily when she gets home from school and we are having grilled chicken salad for dinner.

It's time I clean up my act! Plus Beaumont is running a stellar deals on the Fitbit. I'm super tempted to get my hands on one. Hmmm....

Roasted Tomato Soup!

Check out this awesome recipe by Tyler Florence! http://m.foodnetwork.com/recipes/35368

It's super easy and the fresh flavors will knock
your socks off!! Take advantage of your garden
or local farmers market because this soup freezes
well! Side note: I used a blender, not an immersion
blender.

Curls Gone Crazy

My life as a nursing student has me so insanely busy, I had to incorporate some short cuts into my life. DevaCurl is my new best friend!

My hair is naturally curly (have we talked about this before?) and if I let it go curly, it is super low maintenance.

The no-poo shampoo smells awesome and my hair feels super clean afterwards. Then I gently comb it out and put ArcAngel in it while lifting my curls into place. The ArcAngel hardens to a cast on the hair and when it's dry, I gently scrunch it off. VOILA!!

This stuff is the bomb! No more 5am showers for this chic. I do it all the night before.

Thank you Justine, for turning me on to this awesome product!

Amazing Moments

Sometimes I am completely blown away at how things can totally go your way when you least expect it.

This past June, I sat here with butterflies in my stomach as I applied for a new job. When I left Beaumont in 2005, it was to stay at home with the kids. I never dreamed by 2010 it would be SO hard to get back in. At that time, Beau had just laid off 600 employees. Desperate for a job, I landed at another health system, but kept stalking the career board at Beau for the next 3 years.

It took me over an hour to fill out the application and to complete the "are you a psycho nut bag" test.
With my heart in my throat, I submitted it. I voiced my concerns to a close friend about how school started up on August 19, and if I were selected for this job, I had to orientate before then. She was quick to point out that they are SO S...L...O...W when it comes to these things. It is what it is.

July 1, Panera Bread, Chicago IL. As I sat enjoying a cinnamon crunch bagel with my daughter and niece, a call came in from Troy, MI. With nothing to write on, nor a calendar to look at, I blindly accepted an interview date and as I repeated the information to the caller, my brilliant daughter typed a note into her phone. My interview was set for July 12.

The interview went amazingly well and as the department manager entered the HR office, I practically fell out of my chair. The manager of the department is a girl that I worked with for 6 years as an Emergency Technician. You have got to be kidding!

Lets start to make a really long story short...

I was told that day that she is hiring me. It took HR a bit to call and offer me the position and when they finally did, they wanted me to start on August 19 - the first day of classes. It took everything I had, to not cry. There was no way I could miss an entire week of nursing school. It's against the policys. After a few minutes HR called me back and changed the date. Aug 6. I'm IN!

The only unfortunate event that took place was the wage they rehired me at. It was a huge decrease compared to my "other job at the 'other' Health care system". We're talking like a third of my hourly rate... gone.

Fast forward - Today, Aug 30. My manager and former coworker comes and tells me AGAIN that there is still a part time position available. She REALLY wants me to take it. I told her about the difference in pay and without missing a beat, she sends and email to HR and then sends me down there. I went down, explained my plight and two hours later... I received a call. Instead of meeting half way, they immediately changed my pay to what I made when I left in 2005! It is WAY more than I ever anticipated!!

I have until Monday to decide if I should take the part-time position. Everything in me is saying "Yes" but I just don't want to bite off more than I can chew and then not be able to meet my commitment. I can't imagine that happening though because I have pretty much worked 2 days/week for a really long time.

Decisions, decisions.

This whole thing has been one HUGE amazing moment!!

I'm Back!!

Holy cow. It took me all of a half an hour just to figure out that I signed into blogger with the wrong address which is why I couldn't find my blog. Then I couldn't remember my password, so then I had to have it sent to an old email address, which I couldn't remember the password for that either, lol! GADS!!!

Regardless, I am glad to be back at it. At this moment I'm studying cancers of the mouth and have some things to do to get a head so I can actually enjoy this Labor Day weekend! So sit tight my friends!

Please pop in with a comment saying "Hi" so I know this is actually working, :)

Later!
